Category: Compact MPV
Price Range: £10,295 to £14,825
Affordable; practical; large load-space; no-nonsense image; economical diesels.
Slow and still van-like to drive; neither as comfy or as safe as C4 Picasso.
No-frills family transport for those who like their MPVs unpretentious.

The new Berlingo's structure is stiffer and stronger than its predecessor's, but it's not scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests, like the C4 Picasso. Its four star rating for overall adult occupant safety is creditable, but mediocre by modern (car) standards. A good four stars for child protection, however, and two for pedestrian protection.
It's not equipped to anywhere near the same level as the C4 Picasso, however, with only twin front airbags as standard. Side airbags are optional in the VTR and standard in the XTR, however, and curtain airbags optional too. The added-value Safety Pack option adds side curtain airbags plus stability control, traction control and hill start assist. The stability control (ESP) is well worth having in something this high-roofed with a high centre of gravity.
For security, VTR and XTR models have remote central locking with deadlocks, and the XTR has electric child locks and an extra child-surveillance rear-view mirror. All models have Isofix child seat mounting points on the two outer rear seats and front passenger seat, though none have items such as active head restraints or seatbelt pretensioners. Tyre pressure monitoring and an alarm are further options.
