Category: Compact MPV
Price Range: £10,295 to £14,825
Affordable; practical; large load-space; no-nonsense image; economical diesels.
Slow and still van-like to drive; neither as comfy or as safe as C4 Picasso.
No-frills family transport for those who like their MPVs unpretentious.

Cheap to buy in the first place (though we'd want to add much of the optional safety kit) and easy to sell on, the Berlingo Multispace should be cheap to run for a few years. Its insurance grouping is just 3E for some versions, and Citroen servicing and maintenance will be relatively cheap.
Opting for the entry-level diesel engines (75bhp and 90bhp) could be a false economy, however, if you do a high mileage - neither are as quite as economical as the 110bhp version, which also boasts a particulate filter for much-reduced emissions. The 110bhp HDI returns 50.4mpg and 147g/km, and the other two 49.6mpg and 150g/km, though they all just about slip into Band C for tax (currently £120 a year). The petrol models are a slightly scary Band F, giving 34.5mpg and a high 195g/km.
