Fine ride, good to drive, generous standard equipment.
Interior feels dated, love-'em-or-hate-'em looks.
Fine-driving 407 remains a good car, just one that's outshone by its main competitors.

The up-rated Euro 5 2.0-litre HDI averages 42mpg and emits 150g/km of carbon dioxide - 5g/km less than the 136bhp engine it replaces. This means a company car buyer will be liable for the 20% tax bracket - 1% less than the old car. Road tax will be cheaper too: the 2.0-litre slotting into Band C- a band lower than the old car.
Perversely, the cut in emissions is at the expense of fuel consumption. The newer engine returns 4.9mpg less than the old 134bhp 2.0-litre HDI engine.
It's a similar story for the 1.6 HDI with the smallest diesel slotting into the low 18% tax bracket and Band C for VED.
